Getting Started
Start by adding the variables. To add a variable, press the Add Variable button
on the toolbar. You must repeat this process for each variable. At least one input variable and one output variable must be entered. The status line at the bottom of the main window will record your progress and let you know what remains to be done.
Once the required variables are entered, one should begin by finding the optimal targets by clicking on the Optimal Targets button
on the toolbar. Generally it is best to maximize Cpk.
Once the optimal targets have been found, one should determine the performance of the current design by pressing the Capability Study button
on the toolbar. If the current performance is acceptable, the job is done. However, if the performance is not yet acceptable, tolerances will have to be tightened.
Tolerances to be tightened should be selected based on their effect as well as the cost of tightening them. To determine which tolerances have the greatest effect, click on the Pareto Chart button
on the toolbar. After tightening a tolerance, reoptimize and reevaluate the performance until the desired performance is achieved.
