Category Input Dialog Box





The Category Input dialog box is used to enter and change information concerning a category input variable.  It is one of four variable dialog boxes.
The dialog controls are:
Symbol edit box:
Used to enter a unique symbol to represent the category input variable in equations.  It can be any combination of letters, the digits 0-9 and underscores so long as the first character is not a digit.  It can be of any length but is best limited to 1-4 characters.
Name edit box:
Used to enter a more detailed name or description of the category input variable.  It can be any combination of characters and any length.
Select Category combo box:
Used to select category to use for analysis.  Optimizations, capability studies, Pareto charts, effects tables, plots and simulations are all performed for the currently selected category.
Category list box:
Used to display list of all categories and used to select categories for edit and delete operations.
Add Category button:
Press to add new category.  Results in Add or Edit Category dialog box being displayed.
Edit Category button:
Press to change the symbol or description associated with the category highlighted in the Category list box.  Results in Add or Edit Category dialog box being displayed.
Delete Category button:
Press to remove the category highlighted in the category list box from the list of categories.  Prompts to confirm before removing.
Suppose the symbol for the category input variable is M and there are two categories Old and New.  These are referenced as M{Old} and M{New} in an equation.  When Old is the selected category, the symbol M{Old} has value 1 and M{New} has value 0.
To close the dialog box and save the changes, click the OK button.  To cancel the changes including the addition of a new variable, click the Cancel button, press the Esc key or click the X in the upper right corner of the dialog box.  To delete the variable, click the Delete button.  For help, click the Help button or press the F1 key.
